Generous Donation of Croatian Cleveland Community to Sisak Hospital

Croatian Cleveland Community has donated an ultrasound device to the Service for Gynecology and Obstetrics to the General Hospital “Dr. Ivo Pedišić” in Sisak. Croatian diaspora and their families in Cleveland, a city in the State of Ohio, have fundraised 610.000 kunas (approx. $100 000) to buy highly needed devices to check the health status of pregnant women in Sisak-Moslavina county.

In the name of the donation team, Josie Tomljenovic, manager of the sisterhood in the Cleveland clinic has handed over the device.
Donations have been collected by groups of Croatian-Americans in Cleveland and also by the Croatian Church of Saint Paul in Cleveland.

“We wanted to help the hospital in Sisak because what is done for the hospital has an impact on the whole community. I feel sad when I see the damage to the hospital, but now I have a clearer picture of what help is needed. The strength and optimism of health workers in Sisak is inspiring. Do not be worried, you’re not alone in this – that was the message from Josie Tomljenovic on her visit to the hospital.

Mr. Sc. Tomislav Dujmenović, principal of the General Hospital “Dr. Ivo Pedišić” and Jovica Jakšić, Head of the Service for gynecology and obstetrics have given thanks for the donation.

Jovica Jakšić stated:

“This ultrasound device is necessary for the work in the gynecology and obstetrics clinic, especially to monitor high-risk pregnancies under current rules of practice that demand comprehensive ultrasonic check to estimate the conditions of the fetus.”

Earthquakes that struck Sisak-Moslavina County at the end of 2020 have done damage to the General Hospital “Dr. Ivo Pedišić” in Sisak. Health devices and medical equipment have also been impacted by damage. The gynecology clinic now functions in a smaller space that is shared with emergency, internist, and pediatric clinics.

Association Pomaganje je uvijek IN from Zagreb has helped to connect the Croatian community in Cleveland and Sisak Hospital.
