Strengthening Ties: PM Plenković’s Visit to D.C. and ACAP’s Role

This month, Washington, D.C., set the stage for advancing U.S. – Croatia ties, with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković’s visit highlighting Croatia’s transatlantic commitment and the key role of the Croatian-American diaspora.

A Renewed Commitment on Capitol Hill

On Capitol Hill, a special reception was held to commemorate the relaunch of the Congressional Croatian Caucus for the 119th Congress. Hosted at the Rayburn House Office Building, the Caucus brings together 25 bipartisan U.S. Representatives, co-chaired by Rep. David Joyce (R-OH) and Rep. Nanette Barragán (D-CA), both of whom represent districts with significant Croatian-American populations. The reestablishment of the Caucus reflects a shared interest in strengthening Croatia-U.S. relations across key areas: economic exchange, foreign policy, defense cooperation, and cultural diplomacy.

The event was elevated by the presence of Prime Minister Plenković, joined by Croatian Foreign Affairs Minister Gordan Grlić Radman and Economic Minister Ante Šušnjar. In his remarks, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of this renewed legislative partnership, Croatia’s steadfast support for democratic values, and the enduring friendship between the two nations. Representatives from U.S. and Croatian governmental bodies, bilateral relations offices, and leading diaspora organizations, including the Association of Croatian American Professionals (ACAP) and the National Federation of Croatian Americans Cultural Foundation (NFCACF), were in attendance to mark the occasion.

ACAP Recognizes a Historic Honor

Later that week, Prime Minister Plenković was presented with the Atlantic Council’s Distinguished International Leadership Award, a prestigious honor celebrating his leadership of Croatia, unwavering commitment to European unity, and consistent strengthening of transatlantic alliances. In a powerful speech delivered during the award ceremony, the Prime Minister called Croatia “a story of success, one that is still being written.” He highlighted the country’s transformation from a war-torn nation to a prosperous EU and NATO member, and reaffirmed Croatia’s commitment to standing with the United States as a loyal ally.

Representing the Croatian-American professional community, members of ACAP’s Board of Directors and chapter leaders traveled to D.C. for the occasion. They were welcomed at a special reception hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia, where they joined fellow Croatian diaspora leaders in honoring this momentous occasion.

A Shared Vision for the Future

ACAP proudly congratulates Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on this distinguished recognition and applauds his message of resilience, partnership, and progress. His visit to the U.S. marks a critical milestone in elevating Croatia’s global standing and reinforces the important role the diaspora plays in bridging nations.

As ACAP continues its mission to connect, inspire, and empower Croatian professionals across the globe, we are honored to be a part of these historic moments that shape a stronger future for Croatia and its allies. Together, we will keep building bridges, across oceans, across generations, and across sectors, to ensure that Croatia continues to thrive on the world stage.
