ACAP Celebrates Milestone in Croatian Language Education: Andrea Katić Bruno Appointed U.S. Coordinator for Croatian Schools

The Association of Croatian American Professionals (ACAP) proudly shares the news of a major achievement in the promotion and support of Croatian language education in the United States. After years of advocacy and community collaboration, the Ministry of Science, Education, and Youth of the Republic of Croatia has officially appointed ACAP Croatian Schools Committee co-chair Andrea Katić Bruno as the Coordinator for Croatian Language Instruction in the United States.

This appointment marks the culmination of work initiated by the ACAP Croatian Schools Committee and builds on efforts that began in 2018 with online seminars and workshops hosted in partnership with key Croatian government offices and diaspora communities across cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Boston, New York, and Houston. These early efforts revealed a clear need for greater support and structure for volunteer teachers, and laid the groundwork for the creation of a dedicated coordinator role.

Andrea Katić Bruno brings a wealth of experience to this new role. A graduate of the University of Zagreb with a degree in Croatian Culture and Philosophy, she is currently completing a Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) in the United States. With more than 15 years of experience in language instruction, curriculum development, and intercultural education, she is uniquely qualified to offer guidance and support to Croatian schools across the country.

Andrea will serve as a valuable resource for volunteer educators. Her goals include:

Providing access to teaching materials and didactic resources

Facilitating connections among schools and educators for sharing best practices

Supporting the organization of teacher workshops and seminars

Strengthening continuity in Croatian language and cultural instruction through expert coordination and mentorship

ACAP encourages all Croatian schools in the United States to connect with Andrea at hrvatska.nastava.sad@gmail.com to take advantage of this long-awaited resource. We hope her role will lead to greater collaboration, consistency, and visibility for Croatian language programs nationwide.

We thank all those who contributed to this success — especially the members of the original ACAP Croatian Schools Task Force and our partners in Croatia’s education and diaspora ministries. ACAP remains committed to promoting Croatian language and cultural education, and we look forward to working with Andrea to support our schools and communities.

For any schools interested in being featured in the ACAP Croatian Schools Directory or collaborating on future events — including a breakout session at the 2025 ACAP Conference in Chicago — please reach out to info@croampro.com.
